Plastic animals

As a lifetime resident of the Grant Wood state, I love a rolling hill. On a walk one day, I noticed that the mounds of moss formed by my neighbor’s tree roots looked just like the fields I love driving past on the highway. All they needed were some cows. I rang the doorbell and let her know.

Not only was this series a fun project (it certainly had me looking at the world in different ways!), but it was a big help to me as I learned my first lighting kit. These quiet little animals were patient practice subjects as I experimented with key lights, tiny softboxes, and the fake sunsets that bring warmth to their scenes.
